Weather & Best Season of Karkala |
Karkala has an average summer temperature of 38°C and an average winter temperature of 28°C. Winters starts by December and extends up to February and summers are in the period March to May. Monsoons see somewhat heavy rain, accompanied with strong winds.
Karkala is famous for Mahamastakabhisheka festival which is held once in 12 years. During this ceremony Gommateshwara statue is bathed with milk, water, and saffron. Millions of Jain devotees attend the festivities. Last Mahamastakabhisheka was held in February 2002 and next will be in 2014.
Other important festivals in Karkala are annual car festival during February, Maha Sivarathri (February/March) and Karthika Deepotsava (November). All are conducted with much impressive shows and processions.
Best time to visit is from September to March.
