Baba Ramdev Temple (also known as Adhar Shila Temple) is situated on top of a sandstone hill called Massuria Hills between Jalori Gate and Nagori Gate in Jodhpur. It is a very ancient temple known primarily for its antiquity.
In a small rock in front of the temple are inscribed the words “Enter at your own risk”. These words lend an aura of mystic charm to the temple. There are several unproven local legends and myths about the origin and deity of the temple, which further enhance the mystic appeal of this ancient temple in the minds of those fantasy-struck tourists.

Balsamand Lake is the most popular picnic spot around Jodhpur. It is an artificial lake, built in 1159 AD as a water reservoir to provide water to the city. The lake is situated in the Jodhpur-Mandore Road, around seven kilometres from the centre of Jodhpur city.
The lake has a length of almost one kilometre, breadth of approximately 50 metres and a depth of 15 meters. Adjacent to the lake stands one of the several imposing palaces in the region, Balsamand Lake Palace. The lake is surrounded by 300 acres of lush green gardens that house groves of trees like mango, pomegranate, guava and plum and several animals and birds like jackal and peacock.

Chamunda Mata Temple was built by Rao Jodha, the man known as the founder of Jodhpur, when he brought the deity of his favourite goddess Chamunda Mata to Jodhpur in 1460. He constructed a temple near Mehrangarh fort and installed the deity there. The temple is situated near the southern gate of Mehrangarh fort in the outskirts of Jodhpur city.
This temple has been the favourite temple of the royal family ever since. Dussehra is the time (in October) when festival is conducted in this temple, which is celebrated by thousands of devotees who are eager to get a glimpse of the deity of the powerful Chamunda Devi.

The Hall of Heroes is a monument located in Mandore, which is about 10 km north of Jodhpur. Mandore had been the capital of the princely state of Marwar before Jodhpur. The Hall of Heroes is situated near the temple-shaped cenotaphs of former Rajput kings in Mandore Gardens.
The hall was built to honour the memory of the brave Rajput folk heroes. A visitor can see the spectacular sight of the fifteen life-size statues of as many folk heroes of Rajasthan, carved out of stone and rock in this hall. Jai Pol or Jaya Pol (which means “the gate of victory”) is one of the historic structures in the magnificent Fort Mehrangarh in Jodhpur. It is the most famous of the seven gates in the imposing fort. It is situated in a hill about 5 km from Jodhpur city.
Jai Pol is constructed in 1806, by Maharaja Man Singh, the then ruler of the kingdom of Marwar. This gate is constructed to celebrate the victory of Marwar over the neighbouring rival kingdoms of Jaipur and Bikaner after fierce battles. In the wall near the gate, scars made by cannon balls from the old battle can still be seen.

Jaswant Thada is about four kilometres away from Jodhpur city. It is situated on the left side of Fort Mehrangarh, in fact between the fort and the city. It is a royal cenotaph built in 1899 in commemoration of Maharaja Jaswant Singh, who was the 33rd king of Jodhpur.
The cenotaph was built by his son, Maharaja Sardar Singh. In the cenotaph, portraits and photographs of other kings of Jodhpur are displayed. Jaswant Thada is an architectural marvel, built with expertly carved sheets of white marble. The marbles are very thin and polished and carved in such a way that the outside surface emits a glow during day time.

Kailana Lake is a beautiful picnic spot situated about 11 kilometres away from Jodhpur city, on the road towards the desert city of Jaiselmer. This is an artificial lake constructed in 1872 by Pratap Singh, the Prime Minister of Jodhpur at that time. This lake is sprawled over an area of 84 square kilometres.
It is said that old palaces and gardens were destroyed to construct this lake. Tourists can avail boating facility in this lake. But swimming is discouraged here. The major attraction of the lake is the fantastic view of the sunset from here. The lake is surrounded by a garden known as Pratap Sagar, in which live a variety of bird species.

Loha Pol (the gate of iron) is another historic gate in the magnificent Fort Mehrangarh, like Jai Pol. It is situated in a hill about five kilometres from Jodhpur city. It is one of the seven gates in the fort. It is the fourth gate of the fort.
It leads to palaces and residences of kings. So it had been the most heavily guarded gate. It was through this gate that the bereaved queens ran into flames to commit ‘sati’ immediately after the death of their husbands. The ‘hand prints’ of those queens can still be seen in Loha Pol.

Mahamandir Temple is located two kilometres away from Jodhpur on the road towards Mandore. As the name suggests (Mahamandir means ‘huge temple’), it is a very big temple. It was built in 1812. The fantastically carved 84 pillars in the temple are a sight to behold.
One cannot stop admiring the craftsmanship of the ancient sculpturers who made it possible. It is also famous for its intricate works in stone, in which yogic postures are carved out. There are plenty of ancient shrines and houses located in the premises of Mahamandir Temple. The walls and pillars of the temple are studded with expertly designed traditional motifs.

Mandore Gardens is located about 10 kilometres from the city of Jodhpur. Mandore had been the capital of Marwar dynasty before Jodhpur. Mandore Gardens, with its unique high rock terrace, still is a prime attraction of tourists in Jodhpur.
The garden is open from 8 am to 8 pm. The garden contains cenotaphs of former Marwar kings. Unlike normal cenotaphs in the region, the cenotaphs in Mandore are built like traditional Hindu temples. The cenotaphs are made in red sandstone and generally have four elegant storeys. These cenotaphs are surrounded by a beautifully landscaped garden. The garden also contains a ruined fort and palace.

Mehrangarh Fort is one of the most imposing and largest forts not only in Jodhpur but in the whole India. It is a fort that oozes the charm and grandeur of a bygone era. It is situated five kilometres away in a hill in the outskirts of Jodhpur city. Its construction was started around 1459 by the king known as the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha. But he could not complete it in his life time.
Its construction is believed to have been completed by Raja Jeswant Singh in the second half of the 17th century. The walls of the fort have a height of 36 metres and a width of 21 metres. There are several palaces inside the fort. The fort looks magnificent from the city and if you go inside the fort, the fort reciprocates the favour: the city looks unbelievably wonderful from the fort.
The fort is open to visitors from 9 am to 5 pm. Entry fee is Rs 250/-, which includes the charge of using still camera.

Mehrangarh Fort Museum is situated inside the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, which is five kilometres away from Jodhpur city. In the museum worthy remnants from the era of kings and queens are preserved. It is considered as one of the best maintained museums in Rajasthan, where one can find several interesting things from a previous age: from an array of palanquins used by the kings to high quality paintings from the royal collection.
There are 14 display rooms in the museum. In these rooms one can also see the weapons, ornaments, and costumes. There are four period rooms which are decorated exactly as in the royal age.

Phool Mahal (means ‘the palace of flowers’) is now the most popular period room in Mehrangarh Fort Museum. It was built by Maharaja Abhaya Singh in the eighteenth century as a private room for the king’s pleasure. The gold used for the construction of Phool Mahal is believed to have come from Gujarat as the booty of the war in which the king defeated a Mogul governor.
The other attractions in Phool Mahal, such as the paintings, portraits and raga mela, were the contribution of a later king, Jaswant Singh. The entry fee is Rs 200/-, which includes the charge for using still camera. For using video camera, an additional charge of Rs 200/- has to be paid.
