Howrah is a city that is situated in the Howrah district of the state of West Bengal. The city is an industrial center and it known as the sister city of Kolkata. Howrah is situated on the west bank of the Hoogly River. There are a few interesting places that you can visit in the city. You can also opt for a ferry ride on the river and take a day trip to the city of Kolkata.
There is an old banyan tree that situated in the Shibpur neighborhood of Howrah and this is said to have the greatest canopy in the world. The tree is a local wonder and covers a few city blocks. The Botanical Gardens that was established by the British in the year 1786 is also worth the visit.
There are a few temples that are located in the city and the main one is the temple of Lord Rama. This is a good place to visit and one can see a grand fair being held during the festival season. The Santragachhi Jheel is also worth the visit and one can see many species of birds that migrate here during the winter season. The whistling duck is the main species that is found here.
