Best Season / Best time to visit Hemis
The Hemis region in Jammu and Kashmir experiences a temperate climate. The basic seasons are those of summer, winter. The region of Hemis does not receive enough rainfall because it lies in a rain shadow region in the state, and showers are rare and sparse. For this reason, the forests in the region of Hemis are very dry and have dry vegetation. Summers are a good time to visit the place as winters will be too cold for comfort.
Summers in the region of Hemis extend through the months of April, May and June. These three months are the summer months where temperatures always maintain an average of around fifteen degrees (15°C). Temperatures may rise up to around twenty degrees (20°C) rarely, but this doesn’t happen, given the altitude. Summers are bearable, and carrying thick woollen clothing will be necessary in order to keep warm during night time.
Winters in the region of Hemis are very cold, and temperatures during winter time normally range around an average of minus thirty degrees (-30°C). Visiting the region during this time is not a very good idea, as tourism and sightseeing may be hampered. The winter months are October, November, December, January and February, and snowfall is common during December.
