Haryana is a state in the northern India. Chandigarh is the capital city of Haryana and the language widely spoken is Haryanvi. The state shares its capital with Punjab and the second official language of the state is Punjabi. Haryana is bordered by the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi. A huge part of Haryana is included in the National Capital Region.

Haryana is among the wealthiest states in the country and contributes to a huge chunk of its GDP. The state is dotted with industries and is reported as one among the most economically advanced regions in the South East Asia. Some famous industrial epicenters of the state are Faridabad, Panchkula, Panipat and Yamuna Nagar.

The famous battles of Panipat were fought in the state; Mahabharata from the Hindu mythology was fought in Kurukshetra in Haryana. Haryana attained statehood in 1966.

Destinations to Visit

Haryana has a wide range of tourist destinations. Rich biodiversity and an array of forts, gurudwaras and temples make Haryana a tourists delight. The most famous destination in the state is Kurukshetra; where the mighty battle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas took place according to the Hindu Mythology.

Pilgrims can visit Jyotisar, which is said to be the place where Hinduism was nurtured and nourished. Some other places of historical importance in the state for Hindus are Thanesar, Jyotisar, Panchkula and Pehowa.

If eco tourism is your forte, Haryana is a major destination as it is rich in biodiversity. The Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is home to over 100 species of birds. The Seonsar forest houses the Saraswati Wildlife Sanctuary which ranges over 44.53 sq. kilometers. The Indian Grey Hornbills, Rufous Treepies, Greater Coucals, Coppersmith Barbets are a few examples of the fauna found in the forest; some wild animals found in the Seonsar forest are Wild Boars, Geedar, Neelgai, and Langurs. The Kaleshwar forests are covered by huge Sal groves and add to the rich biodiversity belonging to the state.

Tourists can also visit the Badkhal Lake, Karna Lake, Ibrahim Lodhi’s tomb, Yadavindra gardens, Magpie, Skylark and many temples and Muslim shrines. Haryana is also famous for its golf tourism. Adventure tourism is steadily growing in the state. Some of the activities carried out are kayaking, river rafting, boat cruises, rappelling and cycling.

How to Reach

By Air

The major airport in the state is in Chandigarh; it is well connected to all the metropolitan cities. International tourists generally prefer the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi, due to its close proximity with Haryana; it has flights to Middle East Asia, China, USA and Europe.

By Trains

The Chandigarh railway station is well connected with all the cities in the state. The Delhi railway station is also preferred. Haryana boasts of an excellent roadway network. The Shatabdi Express connects Chandigarh and Ambala to the New Delhi railway station.

By Road

People generally prefer travelling from states near Haryana by buses or cabs. The roads are very good and hence add to the pleasure of driving down. You can find many restaurants and dhabas all along the highways.
