Grishneshwar is one of the ancient pilgrim destinations with all the purities and calmness of an Indian village. The religiously important Grishneshwar village is located in the close vicinities of Ellora and Daulatabad near Aurangabad in Maharashtra. Grishneshwar is the abode of one of the holy 12 Jyotirlingas, the holiest and ancient Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga temple. Grishneshwar is also known as Kusumeswar, Ghushmeswara, or Grushmeswara and all the names are related legendary stories of the origin of Grishneshwar. The village offers unpolluted environment for a rejuvenating stay in order to attain spiritual enlightenment.

The village offers serene atmosphere for empowering the mind through the visit of holiest Jyotirlinga. The present village offers many accommodation facilities to the enthusiastic pilgrims for a hassle free temple visit. The village was once ruled by renowned Ahalyabai Holkar, who ruled Indore during 1765 to 1795. She had built the Grishneshwar temple along with the reconstruction of Vishnu Pada temple at Gaya and Kashi Vishwanatha temple at Varanasi.

There are many legends about Grishneshwar. It is believed an ardent devotee named Kusuma offered prayers to Lord Shiva dipping the Shivalinga in a water tank. Eventually Lord Shiva appeared in front of her and her prayers for the restoration of her son's life was answered. The present Grishneshwar is located in and around this place.

Apart from religious pilgrims, many tourists visit this place to understand the ancient temple customs and routines and also the ancient architectural style of the temple. The images and the inscriptions of the temple also attract enthusiastic travelers to this village.

Grishneshwar is a Hindu temple town that is located near the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra. The place is extremely small and the local transport options are limited. Buses and private taxis are the best ways to get around town. The town can be reached from end to the other on foot as it is quiet small.

Government Bus

The local transport is primarily through buses. These run across the village and they stop on request. Tickets are cheap and they may be crowded. Many State run buses pass through the center of the town and these are used for local transport as well. These buses pass through most of the important places in the town.

Private Taxi

Hiring private vehicles is the best option as they are required to travel to the various temples and sites in the surrounding areas and in the outskirts. Private taxis are available in some of the cities that are located nearby.
