Viceroy's Arch

, Goa

No photo available!
There is a picturesque road leading from the St Cajetan Church right into the River Mandovi. The road passes through an archway known as the Viceroy’s Arch. The Portuguese constructed the arch, which is made up of laterite and green granite immediately after gaining a foothold in Goa.

The exquisitely carved façade boasts of a recess at the top housing a stone statue of Vasco da Gama. Similarly, the rear of the façade houses a statue of Argonaut. Two inscribed slabs adorn the walls of the arch describing the significance of the monument. The original arch has undergone various changes and what stands today is the arch, which was re-built in 1954.
