Faizabad |
Faizabad can be termed as a medium sized city or an overgrown town that has retained its glorious history and proudly presents its colorful past to every visitor. The town itself has a history of over 250 years and the culture, attitude, hospitality and milieu speaks volumes regarding the legacy handed over to this fantastic town. A major town in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Faizabad is situated on the banks of River Ghagra, a small tributary of the Ganges.
The town Faizabad was founded in 1730 by the Nawab of Bengal, Ali Vardi Khan. Later Shuja-ud-daula declared it as the capital of the Kingdom of Awadh. The town flourished under his kinship and attained unsurpassed glory. The glorious days of Faizabad were replete with visits by various Nawabs and construction of many artistically intricate buildings and monuments which still stand tall. However, this great capital fell out of contention and Lucknow usurped it as the capital city. The fame and prosperity faded but the glorious past has left an indelible mark on the town. Apart from being a historically as well as culturally important bastion, Faizabad is also well known due to its proximity to the city of Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Ram, the revered Hindu King. The city itself boasts of a plethora of attractions and the people of Faizabad display their famous hospitality to every visitor. Extremely delicious cuisines and innovative textile products have been refined and passed down through generations and the markets of Faizabad are abundant with mouthwatering cuisine spreads and enchanting cloth material. Any trip across the town is bound to reap rich dividend in form of excellent gastronomic satisfaction as well as the contentment of shopping pleasure at perfectly reasonable bargains.
