Sprawling over an area of 680 sq km in Lakhimpur-Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, Dudhwa National Park is home to Royal Bengal Tiger and other species of wildlife. It was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1977. Located in the foothills of Himalayas, amidst tropical Terai forests, the park houses a wide range of wildlife.

The thick forests, extensive grasslands and wet marshes of the park harbor a variety of animals like tiger, swamp deer, elephant, jackal, leopard, civet, sloth bear, fishing cat and different species of birds. The Reserve has more than 450 species of birds, which makes it a favorite place for bird watchers and lovers.

In 1984, the great Indian one-horned Rhinoceros was successfully reintroduced. Since then, rhino population has increased marginally. Besides, the Reserve is also home to the critically endangered species like the Bengal Florican (Houbaropsis bengalensis) and the Hispid Hare (Caprolagus hispidus), adding to the marvel of Dudhwa National Park.

The park remains open to the public from the months of November to June. But the best time to visit the park is from November to May.
