Darjeeling is the first hill station of India where organized trekking was firstly conducted. It was in the year 1840 that the first organized trekking route in India was established here along the Singalila range. Since then, the breathtaking picturesque views of Everest and Kanchenjunga have been attracting thousands of nature lovers from different parts of the world.

The Singalila track route is the most popular and initiates in Darjeeling. It continues through Maneybhanjyang, Tonglu, Sandakphu and finally concludes in Phalut. While trekking, one can experience the mystic beauty of nature abundant with Magnolias, orchids and innumerable other wild flowers. Also the thick forests, green pastures and rocky surface make the place worth visiting.

While moving on Kalimpong-Relli route, trekkers, while passing through the golden paddy fields can appreciate the natural landscape full of unusual varieties of Himalayan flora, bird, and wildlife. The Kurseong-Mirik trek and Kurseong-Namsu are the main trails through low altitude areas. The Kurseong-Namsu trail treks through the lush tea gardens.

The best time of the year to undertake trek in Darjeeling in India is in the months of April-May and October-November.
