Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre, located at a distance of about 6 km from Darjeeling is a rehabilitation centre for the Tibetan refugees. It was established in 1959 by the Govt. of India with the aim to provide shelter to the Tibetans who fled to India with Dalai Lama during Chinese invasion of Tibet.

The main activity of the Centre is the production of Tibetan handicrafts. In fact, it is one among best places in Darjeeling to shop for Tibetan items such as artifacts, woolen garments, carpets and decorative items. The monastery set within the Centre serves as a worship place for those residing at the Centre. Started with just four workers, the Centre is now home to more than 650 Tibetan refugees.
