Daman boasts a range of holy places and the Cathedral of Bon Jesus ranks right at the top of the impressive list. The cathedral, which was a parish church in the beginning, was constructed in 1603 AD and one can't help but marvel at the expertise and passion that the Portuguese architects have poured into it.
The church construction is keeping in taste the Portuguese art of fine details. Thus the carved doorway as well as the interiors and lofty ceiling are a pleasure for sore eyes. There are six statues as per the Roman Catholic tradition and rosewood carvings all around the church are magnificent.

If history of Daman spans back 2 millenniums then the history of Chakratirth would make one dizzy. This beach which can also be seen an attachment of the town is beautiful located right at the centre of Diu.
The beach takes its name from the ancient scripts that discern the story of the demolition of the demon Jallander by Lord Vishnu. Lord who carried his Sudarshan Chakra (disc with star-like points) is dais to have unleashed his chakra on the demon who had turned out to be uglier than he was by virtue of extracting boons from various gods. The Sudarshan Chakra was left at the beach after the job was completed and thus the beach came to be known as Chakratirth beach.
The adjoining hill and the serene atmosphere at the place is further enhanced by some creative and innovative illumination.

Out of the many religious wonder that are scattered across Diu and Daman “The Church of our Lady comes forth as another wonder of Portuguese innovativeness and creativity.
The church located at the overgrown square has one of the most ancient Portuguese tombstones that have been rested into a damp floor. Gold Painted wood has been marvelously carved to form an amazing display of Altar creation. A series of wooden panels depict through paintings the scenes of Jesus and his apostles.

It happens so often that you visit a tourist spot spend half the time gathering exact information regarding the place and then run around to reach those places, stand in queue etc. However, if you ever visit the Damanganga Tourist Complex you will praise the person who conceptualized and created such an amazing assortment of facilities.
This is one of the most well conceived Integrated projects in the country and is studded with a Cafeteria, Health Club, Amphi Theatre, Cottages, Conference Hall, many Giant Water Falls, Water sports, Island Gardens, Fountains and much more. All these facilities are available at one spot under one roof (well, not exactly one roof, but close by. You get the idea!).

The Diu Museum has a very interesting story to tell regarding itself. The setting up of the Museum was in limbo view lack of availability of any dedicated space for the museum. The buildings in Diu were not considered fit enough to house these masterpieces (mostly antique and Stone inscriptions) it was decided to convert the old St. Thomas Church into a museum.
The museum proudly displays idols, wooden carvings, shadow clocks, statues and various other artifacts acquired from numerous sources. The museum also plays host to a wide collection of Catholic statues. Stone remnants of a Jain temple (originally located at the site) also adore the museum.

One of the wonders of history is always the downfall of great empires and institutions. The Dominican Monastery which once served as the headquarters of theological studies and attracted catholic scholars round the globe just declined without any logical reason.
The present day Daman Dominican Monastery represents these ruins.
However, the remains quite effectively relay the stories of its glorious past.
2nd February is the day when Catholics assemble gate to sing a litany.
The mass held in honour of St. Dominic on third Sunday of every December is a moment to attend and remember.

If you ever wondered whether there existed any structure that could match the power and grandeur of the sea then a visit to the Fortress of Panikota is good enough to convince you the truth. This fort can be approached only by riding a boat. This superb structure of stone stands tall right in the sea opening of the creek.
Though the fort stands away from the main land almost a Nautical mile, it still commands regular visitors and houses a light house and a Chapel of the “Our Lady of the Sea. The fortress looks enchantingly inviting from the Diu jetty and is a must visit.

Nani Daman has some interesting sites like Fort of St. Jerome or Nani Daman Fort. The most conspicuous part of the fort is the giant gateway facing the river with a large statue of St. Jerome who was one of the most eminent father of the Catholic Church.
The principal building inside the fort is the imposing church of Our Lady of the Sea. This Catholic Church is one of the ancient seats of office and has a fine altar with superb paneling. The fortifications and parapets provide a mesmerizing view of the fish market below and the armada of fishing boats neatly anchored alongside.
The Jain Temple towards north has its inside walls covered with glassed-over 18th century murals that depict the life of the founder of Jainism, Mahavira.

This is one of those monuments that can easily leave a lingering feeling in your mind for years after visiting it due to sheer difference in the visible structure. It doesn’t matter if you belong to a different faith the St. Paul’s Church dedicated to “Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is visibly the most intricate and ornate churches in the country.
The St. Paul's church construction was completed in the 17th century. A curious thing about the St. Paul's church is the frontage which has been decorated with intriguingly indulgenced volutes and ornamentation strikingly similar to shells.
