Dadra and Nagar Haveli is a small Union Territory located in the western region in India. It lies between Gujarat and Maharashtra. The languages spoken in the Union territory are Gujarati, Bhili, Hindi and Marathi. The major cities are Dadra and Silvassa. The total area covered by the territory is more than 419 sq. kilometers. The cities are wedged between Gujarat and Maharashtra with the Western Ghats to the east and Arabian Sea to the west.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli has a majority of tribal people who are very hospitable and welcome visitors with open arms. The place enjoys a pleasant climate due to its close proximity to the sea. The Union Territory has some Portuguese monuments; and these were constructed during 1779 to 1954. Dadra and Nagar Haveli was declared as a Union territory of India in the year 1961.

Destinations to Visit

Silvassa is a major town in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. You can visit the Tribal Museum, Portuguese Church, Madhuban Dam guest house, Lion Safari at Khavel and the Khanvel gardens in the city. The Dudhni Lake is popular for its water sports and is a weekend getaway for adventure lovers. If you are a foodie, enjoy the famous local street food, which includes vada pav, pani puri, bhel puri and dabeli. Non vegetarians can enjoy the Desi Chicken at Dudhni.

Bollywood fans can visit the Vanganga Lake that is located 6 kilometers from Silvassa and provides a very picturesque view to the visitors. It has fountains, boats, tree lines, Chinese bridges and more. Many Bollywood songs have been filmed in this place. The Havana garden is also a frequently visited spot.

The tribal Museum at Dadra and Nagar Haveli has many hunting and fishing gadgets, artifacts, musical instruments and wedding dresses on display. The Vanivihar Tourist Complex and the Tapovan Tourist Complex at Bindrabin are also located in the Union Territory. The famous Temple of Lord Shiva is situated at Bindrabin. Dudhani is home to the water sports training centre and has a list of activities for adventure sports lovers. The centre provides tourists with bumper boats, scooters, aqua bikes, canoes, kayaks, and speed boats.

The Himavan Health Resort is a popular spot for health tourism. Yatri Niwas is another place where you can relax. The cuisine of Dadra and Nagar Haveli bears a striking resemblance to Gujarati food, and most of the dishes in this cuisine are direct derivatives from the latter. Some of the popular delicacies are khamam dhokla, kadi, paunk, doodh pak and shrikhand.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli can be reached by taking a right turn from Bhilad in NH 8 to Silvassa which is 14 kilometers away. Surat in Gujarat is 140 kilometers from Silvassa.
