However, during the wars fought between the years 1377-78, the kingdom was ruined due to the conflict between the of Muthu Veerappa Nayak and Tirumal nayak. Hyder Ali of Mysore took over the reigns of Coimbatore in the year 1799. Earlier known as Kongunad, the name Coimbatore was rechristened by the British. In many parts of the Coimbatore, it is still referred through its native name – Kovai. In the later part of the 18th century, due to the fall of Tipu Sultan, the city came under the territory of the East India Company and remained under the British governance till India’s independence in 1947. Coimbatore is popular for playing a significant role in the movement of independence. This small hamlet of Tamil Nadu today is an important hub for textile and engineering. It happened to see your posting only today in this website. Hope you are aware that Coimbatore is not located near any coastal region. We don't have any near by beaches. We agree we don;t have beaches nearby but apart from that we are really blessed with so many other things. If you can, please explore the outskirts of Coimbatore. You will really enjoy.
