Chhattisgarh is a state in India located in its central region. It is a major hub for the steel production and the production of electricity. Raipur is its capital city and the language widely spoken is Hindi. Chhattisgarh is the tenth largest Indian state in terms of area. It is bordered by the Indian states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh.

Chhattisgarh has 27 districts, which are divided under the Bastar, Durg, Bilaspur, Raipur and Sarguja divisions. The state earlier belonged to the territory of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Raipur was once a powerful kingdom where many mighty rulers resided. The Satavahana dynasty ruled in Raipur during the 2nd and 3rd centuries. King Ramachandra of the Kalachuri dynasty was the man behind the Raipur Kingdom.

Chhattisgarh lies in the heartland of India and is blessed with a rich cultural heritage and diverse biodiversity. You can visit numerous temples, Buddhist sites, waterfalls, palaces, hill plateaus, caves and rock paintings. The waterfalls flowing through the state are Amrit Dhara, Akuri Narula, Gavar Ghat waterfall, Chitrakot waterfall, Amrit Dhara and the Ramdaha waterfall.

If you have an enthusiastic explorer in you, there are numerous archeological sites in the state, which you can visit, that represent the state’s rich heritage. Some of the sites are Barsoor, located in Dantewada, and Ratanpur and Malhar, located in Bilaspur. The state is also home to many religious sites and architectural marvels. Some famous temples located in the state are the Bhoramdeo temple, Rajivlochan temple, Chandrahasini Devi temple and Champaran temple. Giraudhpur and Sirpur are religious places in the state that you should visit.

Chhattisgarh is home to two dams, namely the Lormi and Khutaghat dams and the Khudiya dam. These dams provide a huge boost to the electricity production in the state. Raipur is often called the city of lakes. Tourists enjoy a visit to the Kankali Talab at Kankali Temple that dates back to 1660 and was built under the guidance of Mahant Kripalgiri. The Maharajabandh Lake was built in the 1770s under the rule of Maharaja Roadani. The Telibandha Lake located in this state was built in 1835 by Dinanath.

A lot of religious structures like the Virenchi Temple, Budheshwar Temple, Brahma Temple, Samlai Temple and Mahamaya Temple are located in the fort area called Bramhapuri.

By Air


The Raipur Airport in the capital city has regular flights to major cities like Bhubaneshwar, New Delhi and Mumbai on a regular basis. Other Indian metropolitan cities are connected to Chhatisgarh via railway routes.

The nearest international airport is the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi and is well connected to all the major destinations in the world.

By Trains


Raipur railway station is a major junction in the state and has trains to all major cities in India like New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai.

By Road


The major towns in the state like Jagadalpur, Bhilai, Durg, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Jabalpur, Bhopal and Bilaspur are all connected with Raipur by road. Buses to certain destinations in Orissa are also available within the state.
