Founded in 1875 by Madame Blavatsky and Col. Olott in USA, Theosophical Society is a worldwide organization whose primary objective is universal brotherhood for the benefit of humanity based on the realization of life, and all its diverse forms. Late in 1882, the society was moved to Adyar in Chennai. The society runs a library, which has a good collection of rare oriental manuscripts written on palm leaves and parchment and these manuscripts have lot of ancestral and archeological value. The library is a good place to have historical knowledge of culture and customs.
