Botanical gardens in Chandigarh allure the visitors with its wide expansion of lovely plant varieties. Among the lovely picnic spots of this beautiful city, these botanical gardens adorn a prominent place. Actually there are two gardens, one is placed in the Punjab University campus and the other is positioned in between the Sukhna Lake and Rock Garden in Sector-1.
The large collection of typical varieties of plant species arranged in a systematic form is the characteristic feature of the garden, which lies in the University Campus. Cacti and other luscious plants are cornered in one side of the garden, while the other area contains numerous exotic and evergreen plants. Another special trait of this picturesque place is the dazzling lotus flowers over here.
The other botanical garden is nested in between the Sukhna Lake Rock. It is stretched over an area of 88 acres. It is the best place to spot rare and unusual genus of plants and tiny lily bands. With a vast expansion of all around greenery, and other pictorial formations these gardens present an awesome appearance.

Established in the year 1976, Bougainvillea Garden has acquired a prime position in the tourism arena of Chandigarh within a short span of time. This exceptional garden is set in Sector-3, and exhibits more than fifty attractive varieties of bougainvillea plants. Bougainvillea Garden is comprised of a total area of 20 acres and the park houses bougainvilleas that is shaped in to different forms like an arch, pavilions, a cluster of bowers, and arcades.
These thorny shrubs are just right for bonsai type planting. The annual Bougainvillea festival conducted in the park is very popular and it attracts large number of people. Apart from these paper beauties, the park also holds fitness tracks, which provides a good walk and morning exercise field amidst a colourful brigade.

Placed in sector-23A, the Children Traffic Park covers a wide area of 12.5 acres. The rationale behind this wonderful theme is to make the children aware of the traffic regulations and rules that are to be obeyed while they are on the road. Though this is mainly aimed at the child force, there is no bar for others to visit the park and take part in the exhibition and other related activities.
The Children Traffic Park houses one exhibition hall and a lecture-cum-cinema hall, which has a capacity of accommodating 120 persons. Verdant lawns, plants, trees, flowerbeds and roads erected for schooling on road safety, enclose the outside area of the park.
A driver track in the park has all the characteristics of a real road with traffic control mechanisms such as road bents, inclines and declines, overpass, underpass, parallel parking area, blind alley, uncontrolled intersections, T-Intersections, Stop Signs and Blinkers. Road markings and road signs displayed at the track gives the feeling of a drive on regular roads. Working hours of the park in winter are scheduled between 8 am to 6 pm and in summer it is fixed in between 8 am to 7 pm. Park also conducts driving tests for children thrice in a week and its time is set between 9 am to 10 am.

The artifacts exhibited in this wonderful museum are arranged in separate art galleries in accordance with its antiquity. These galleries are divided into contemporary art gallery, Decorative Arts and Coins, Gandhara and Hindu sculptures and Miniature paintings.
Like all other majestic buildings, this elegant build also is the creative work of the celebrated architect Le Corbusier. The plan is based on gridiron system of beams and columns. The main building consists of a large visiting room, lobby, conservation laboratory, reserve collection storage, temporary exhibition hall, auditorium and cafeteria. Top lighting system provided to the museum is also a noteworthy factor. Pre-historic fossils and other artifacts put on display are really worthy and this is a recommended place of visit. The reference library houses a vast collection of over 6000 odd books on culture and art.
Visiting hours are scheduled between 10 am to 4.30 pm except on Mondays and official holidays during which the museum is closed.

Also called as Yadavindra Gardens, it is located in the suburbs of the city. It has got a great mythological value also. Mythology says that the Pandavas had come here during their period of exile. Trees with round canopies and evergreen foliage have been planted here. This park was started its functioning in 1954 and is a very good place for long walks and horse riding.The southern side of the park is the place where the official residence of the Chief minister and other ministers are situated.
This fabulous park is named after the first President of India, who had come here to announce the dawn of Chandigarh city. An embodiment of imagination and novelty, the Rock Garden in Chandigarh is a rare scenario, which cannot be equated with anything else. Only one of its kinds, the garden is put up with the urban and industrial wastes. It is sandwiched between the Sukhna Lake and the Capitol Complex in Sector 1. This wonderful artwork is the innovative creation of Nek Chand, a former Road Inspector in Chandigarh. Molded in the form of an open-air exhibition hall, Rock Garden is spread over an expanse of 64 acres.
It displays various sculptures made up of broken ken glass bangles, china ware, discarded fluorescent tubes, clay and coal. Walls of terracotta pots and the maze of paths, canyons and chambers proffer the glance of a dream world. The fantastic 14 chambers with a waterfall, puddles, statues of animals, birds this garden helps one to stretch ones imagination. A garden without a single flower is the venue of the annual Teej Festival. The builds in the garden prove high similitude to Mughal ethnicity.
