A former hunting reserve for the Royal personalities of Patiala Kingdom, Chail Sanctuary was declared as wildlife sanctuary in 1976. This sanctuary is at the peak of mountains supporting the Chail, varying the altitude from 701 meter to 2180 meter above sea level. The area is dense forest lands with the lower altitudes bears pine trees while the higher mountains have shrubs, oak and grasslands.
Many wild animals can be spotted here, including rhesus macaque, Indian muntjac, leopard, crested porcupine, panthera, wild boar, goral, European red deer, Himalayan black bear, sambar, common langur and black-napped hare. Different species of birds are also seen here, some of them are Cheer pheasant and kalij pheasant. This is a must see sanctuary for wild animal lovers and bird watchers.

Amidst of the dense forests of pine and deodars, Chail cricket ground has the spectacular distinction of the world’s highest ever cricket pitch, at an altitude of nearly 2,144 meters above the sea level. This cricket ground is well maintained and is constructed by the Maharaja of Patiala more than 200 years back in 1893. It is also used as a polo ground.
It is established in the cantonment area of army and hence it is as such is out of bounds to common tourists and locals. The place is very cool and picturesque.

The faith is Chail is amply seen in some of the religious destinations and frequently visited by the tourists in Shimla and other beautiful attractions nearby Chail. One such important place is Gurudwara Sahib, constructed in 1907 on Pandhawa hillocks.
This is a very small construction with beautiful lawn, colored in yellow. These constructions resemble some churches in Goa as the two tower structures supporting the main entrance provide an amazing view and religious austerity. Really a worth place to visit to glance through one century old architectures and cultural heritage.

Kali Devi Temple is a must visit place in Chail, a nice Hindu religious destination in the top of the world. Kali Devi as the main deity, this temple is ancient and attracts many from locals and far off from Chail.
This is placed on the top of the mountain named after the Rajmata’s cottage, Blossom. Beautiful scenes of the renowned Shivalik Range and the Choor Chandni peak are breathtaking from this top.
Also trekking to this temple is memorable as one can spot some rare species of wild animals.

The majestic Chail Palace built by the Maharaja of Patiala was once the lodging place of British and now converted as a luxurious hotel in the midst of pine and deodar forests. This majestic palace, constructed in 1891, is placed in approximately 75 acres of land and has actually a royal background with impressive views of surroundings.
Interiors look as the ancient royal dwellings. A wide variety of cottages, rooms and special suites with different and reasonable tariffs can put up every visitor who wishes to enjoy this magnificent hill station of Chail. Antique furniture adorns the suites and one can come in terms with the living as a prince here.

Chail is the abode of many religious places; one such important place is Sidh Baba Ka Mandir. As per mythology and local legends, a saintly figure - a Sidh came in the dream of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, who originally planned to build a palace at this place and informed that this was the place for a Mandir and not for a residential palace. Hence the pietious Maharaja constructed and dedicated to the saint and mandir was known as Sidh Baba Ka Mandir. The surroundings are scenic and the Mandir is a good picnic spot to visit.
