Best Season / Best time to visit Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar offers tropical savanna climate with much temperature variation between the seasons. The best time to visit the city is from October and March.
  • Winters (December to February) are pleasant with an average temperature comes down to nearly 15°C, with a minimum touching 7°C. The period is best to enjoy sightseeing and other tourist activities.
  • Summers (March to May) are scorching with temperature touches above 45°C, tourists prefer to stay away during this periods.
  • Monsoons (June to September) give relief to the hot sun and offer medium to heavy rainfalls. Bhubaneswar looks beautiful in rains.
March to May is dry and can be avoided for outings. June to September is good for sightseeing for those like rainy outings. October to February is very pleasant and recommended for sight-seeing trips and outings.

The weather is moderately cold during January. Daytime is quite pleasant with beautiful sunshine while nights can be little cool. Sometimes this month also face chilly breezes. On an average the temperatures are comfortable and nice making it perfect for tourist activities. Khandagiri Mela is also held in Janjuary.
On an average February days are pleasant with lots of clear blue skies. Temperatures are within comfort range and this make it suitable for travelling and sightseeing in Bhubaneswar. Outings are outdoor trips are enjoyable. Besides, Shiva Ratri festival and Konark dance festival are celebrated in this month.
Moderately Hot
Temperature begins to rise but still falls within the comfort hot zone. The moderate hot weather allows tourist activities in March. Days are mostly accompanied by plenty of sunshine and clear sky. Sightseeing and outdoor activities can also be carried out.
Very Hot
This month is associated with very hot and humid weather. Temperatures rises to level that is too uncomfortable and unbearable. The scorching sun during this period makes it unfavorable for outings and outdoor trips. If you are travelling then sun protective gears are a must. Festivals like Ramanavami and Jhamuyatra can be witnessed during April.

Monsoon season begins from June but the weather remains hot. The month starts with a lot of sunshine with clear skies but towards the end-month rainfall occurs, which give a relief to the hot sun. It is not the best season for exploring the place but still enjoyable for those who like rainy outings. Besides, the place looks beautiful in rains.
The actual monsoon begins from July which accompanies heavy rainfalls and sometimes thunderstorms. Maximum number of days in this month has heavy rainfalls. Cloudy and overcast weather and is not a suitable period for tourist activities. But those who like rainy outings can still enjoy their visit in monsoon. Being off-season period, hotels rates are also comparatively lower than peak months.
This month offers heavy rainfalls and sometimes accompanies thunderstorms. It is the wettest month of the year. On a plus side, temperatures drop to the comfortable zone but this period is not ideal for outings or tourist activities as heavy rains may disrupt you from going out. As an off-season month, rates of the hotels are also lesser in comparison to peak months.
Monsoon season continues offering lots of rains in September month. There will be little blue skies and most of the time the place experience cloudy weather. Temperature falls down and becomes comfortable due to the rains. It may not be the best season but rain lovers can still enjoy their visit. Moreover, the place looks fresh and beautiful in rains.
During October the climate becomes pleasant and most of the rains have vanished. Days are beautiful with lots of sunshine are perfect for sightseeing as well as outdoor trips. Sometimes some light rainfall also occurs. It is one of the best seasons for visiting Bhubaneswar. The mesmerizing festival of Diwali falls in this month.
The weather becomes very pleasing and comfortable during November. It is one of the best months to enjoy sightseeing and outings in Bhubaneswar. Throughout the month, daytime have very pleasant weather conditions. It is also the time to witness Anla Navami.
Moderately Cold
The climate is moderately cold but pleasant in Bhubaneswar during December. Nights are comparatively colder than daytime. Sometimes the place also faces chilly winds. However, this period is perfect for sighting attractions and carrying out other tourist activities in Bhubaneswar. Light warm clothes are preferable for this season.
