Brahma Kapal Ghat is a flat platform on the banks of the Alakananda River, where Lord Brahma is believed to reside. The devotees pay homage and rituals to the departed souls and it is conventional to proffer sraddha to ancestors here. It is situated just 100 meters north of the Badrinath Temple.
Brahma Kapal holds the mythical belief that it was at this place where lord Shiva relieved from his curse of killing Brahma. It is also believed that Brahma’s head had fallen off from Shiva’s trident with the blessing of Lord Vishnu here at Brahama Kapal.
The Sheshnetra, Charanpaduka and the Mata Murthy temple are nearby attractions that hold religious significance.

Charanpaduka is a beautiful rock, which holds the foot prints of Lord Vishnu. An elevated site at a height of 3380 feet, this place beholds enchanting beauty and serenity. Though the uphill path is quite a risky and arduous one, the scenic ambiance and the holy darshan of the Lord footprints would retrieve all the ailments and troubles from the devotees.
The popular belief is that Lord Vishnu set his foot on earth through this point. Bhagwat Purana says that Lord Sri Krishna advised his minister Uddhav to proceed to Badrinath with his Charan Paduka and assured him that the mere glance of Alakhnanda would cleanse off his all wrongdoings.

A holy site from where Adi Sankara recovered the idol of lord Vishnu, Narad Kund is one of the most revered centers in Badrinath. It is a recess in the Alakananda river and is naturally sheltered by a rock with projecting angles. This prevents the flow of the water current and provides suitable surroundings for a nice bath. Water in Narada Kund is so hot that it would not be advisable to take long baths in the pond.
The devotees usually take holy dip in the kund before they venture for a holy darshan. The scenic beauty and the mythical tales that encircle the place make it a popular tourist as well as religious spots in Badrinath.

A holy shrine at an elevation of 3,133 meters Badrinath shrine is famed as the most sacred pilgrim center of the Hindus. Placed at the serene ambiance of majestic Alakananda river in the midst of a gorgeous basin the shrine boast of a legendary history. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple of Shri Badrinathji is 15m in height and is in black colour.
Legends say that this shrine was in existence there at the time of Vedas and it has undergone so many renovations. During winter the temple would be closed due to heavy snowfall and it is believed that during this time the deity would be adorned by the heavenly inhabitants. It is generally assumed that with extend of Buddhism, the Buddhists preserved the deity of Lord Buddha there and during the Hindu renaissance, the statue of Buddha was later reinstated by Sankaracharya with the idol of Lord Vishnu. This might be the reason for the Padmasan posture of the deity, which resembles a typical Buddha deity.
The main shrine has three parts and the Garbha Griha is adorned with the deity of Lord Vishnu in a Padmasana Posture. Darshan Mandap and the Shobha Mandap are the other two major portions of the main temple. With in the temple complex there is another shrine that is dedicated to goddess Lakshmi. It is very interesting to note that Vishnu and Lakshmi are adorned here as distinct idols and that might be the reason that the main priest in Badrinath is a bachelor. Temple complex encompass fifteen idols of other gods and goddess of the Hindu pantheon.
