Best Season / Best time to visit Badrinath

Badrinath has a cool and chilly climate all through the year but the best time to visit is from May to June and again from September to October.
  • Winter (October to April) has chilly days with average minimum touching near 5°C. Minimum can touch sub zero levels and snowfall is very common. These months are not the perfect time for travelling.
  • Summer (May to June) are very pleasant with moderately cold climate, with average around 18°C. Summers is ideal for all sight seeing and the holy Badrinath pilgrimage.
  • Monsoon (July to mid-September) are accompanied with regular rains and also temperature drops down to 15°C. The region is prone to occasional landslides and travelling can be difficult.
The holy city of Badrinath is open for public views from May to October but the temple remains closed during the monsoon months as landslides are common and can mar the journey of the pilgrims. The region experiences pleasant and cool summer while winters are very chilly and snowfall is a regular occurrence.

The weather is extremely cold and tourism is not possible as the way to reach the pilgrim city is completely blocked by snow.

The climate is very cold and must be avoided. Heavy snowfall continues can the roads to reach the region is completely covered in snow.
Snowfall still dominates the land making it difficult for touring. The region remains blanketed with snow.

May marks the beginning of the tourist season for Badrinath. Sun shines through making the climate comparatively warm. However, heavy woolens are required and extra care is required for travelling with kids and old people. The famous Badrinath temples also opens from this month for the darshan. There is no snowfall, but snow will be found on the ground. It will be very crowded.

The weathers starts to get warmer making it apt for pilgrimage as well as holiday. Snow begins to melt down and natural greens starts to blossom. An ideal month of taking up the Badrinath Yatra.
Moderately Cold
One of the best times as the days are cold and nights are chilly, ideal for sightseeing as well as adventure. The month is prone of heavy rainfall which can cause landslides and disrupt your journey. Snow can be enjoyed on slightly higher altitudes.

The area receives occasional rainfall, making August a popular month for visiting Badrinath. August can be categorized as one of the warmest months in the year but the rains can cause landslides making it impossible to travel.

Winters start to take its toll again. Snowfall will start from the end of this month. This is the last month of the year for tourism as well as pilgrimage. In case the tourist group includes children or aged people, extreme cautions needs to be adhered.

Snow>/b> carpets the entire region, making it very difficult for travel. Extremely cold waves engulf the region and roads are normally closed.

The routes to Gangotri are closed due to very heavy snowfall, barring all the tourist activities.

Events & Festivals in Badrinath

  • May – June is the period for Kedar-Badri Utsav, which is a cultural festivals of arts and musics.
  • July-August offers the festival of Janmashtami. This festival is celebrated with many processions, pomp and show.
  • September is attractive here with Mata Mruti Ka Mela, which is celebrated in Badarinath with many rituals and festivities.

we (with my elderly parents) are traveling valley of flowers and badrinath in July, I am aware that winters are heavy there in this month but Valley of flowers have seasons in monsoon only...anybody please advise that which month- july or august, will be comparatively easy on rain fall?

if somebody wants to go to badrinath and kedarnath what will be the best route and how to visit in a well and planned manner. if any tourism facility like tourist agaency is involved pls advise

i go with my wife and 6years son last year char dham yatra.we see all india .but char dham most like.we pick up sharing tour from haridwar for 10days.per seat 1900rs.night stay extra.around below 500per like 40rupee per thali.good food.please go before 15june.then rain start.sharing tour best and cheep enjoy more diffrnt yatri.

plz chk .temp are sub zero and the place is not open for public in winter most ucan go is till mid way frm joshimath to badrinat. It closes guess 5 days after ...more
