Andhra Pradesh is an Indian state in the southern portion of the country. Hyderabad is its capital city and Telugu is the language widely spoken. The state is bordered by Tamil Nadu towards the south, Karnataka towards the west and Orissa towards the north. The state is divided into four regions viz. Northern coast, Southern coast, Rayalaseema and Telangana.

The major cities in Andhra Pradesh are Guntur, Anantapur, Chittoor, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Warangal, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati. The state is also famously called as the “Rice bowl of India”. Andhra Pradesh was declared as a state on 1st November 1956.

Destinations to Visit

The Araku valley is a very picturesque place and is a major attraction. It is lush green with streams passing through it. The Borra caves lie in the Eastern Ghats in the state. They are home to stalagmite and stalactite formations which are over a million years old. The Belum caves are the second largest caves in India and lie in the Kurnool district.

Other tourist attractions in the state include Horsely Hills, Kesoraam, Nagarjuna Sagar, Pakhal Lake, Manyam Konda, Pulicat Lake, Sriharikota; which is home to India’s sole satellite launching centre, and Vadapalli.

The pilgrimage sites in the state include Puttaparthi, which was the home and village of Sri Sathya Sai Baba; Tirupati, home to the famous Balaji Temple, which witnesses scores of visitors from across the world; Srisailam, home to the Jyothir Linga Temples; and Bhadrachalam, which is a temple of Sri Rama on the banks of the river Godavari.

The Char Minar is one of the most beautiful monuments in Hyderabad. The term “Char Minar” literally means four towers. Char Minar was built by the fifth ruler of Qutb Shahi dynasty, known as Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. It was built in 1591 AD.

Golconda Fort was the epicenter of the capital of the kingdom of Golconda. It is located 11 kilometers westwards of Hyderabad and lies in ruins now. It was built by a Hindu Kakatiya King. Hyderabad is also home to Hussain Sagar Lake, which is a perfect spot for families to visit. Some more places within the city include Ramoji Film City, Lumbini gardens, Necklace road and more.

How to Reach

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is located in Hyderabad, and is the largest in the state. It has flights to many major international cities like Sharjah, London, Chicago, Kuwait, Muscat, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, Singapore and Bangkok.

All the major Indian cities like Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are connected with the airport. The Secunderabad railway station connects all the top cities in India.
