Amarkantak is a place where the glittering streams exhilarate the visitors with its gushing waters. There are several places within the shaded coverage of the woody region where Narmada turns in to brawny surge of water that loosens itself from hectic heights transform into an audacious river.
River Narmada ensembles enormous waterfalls in its undulating traits through the dense forest and the Dudh Dhara falls is a noteworthy one. It lies in the western edge of the entire Amarkantak valley in the midst of thick woods. Dudh literally stands for milk and the name itself suggest the nature of the gurgling streams of this pretty cascade.
Dudh Dhara is not famed for its loftiness but its quite and tranquil falls. This is just a 10 feet high stream but it captures the attention of the beholder with its bewitching whiteness. One of the loveliest sites in Amarkantak, Dudh Dhara makes you feel rejuvenated and delightful and so do not forget to be there while at Amarkantak.

A magnificent waterfall that cascades from a lofty elevation of 100 feet Kapildhara waterfalls is an eye-catching spectacle in the hilly terrain of Amarkantak. Kapildhara would be a captivating experience to all where in one can spent a lovely evening in sheer serenity. A lovely cataract in the midst of thick woods, and majestic mountains is a beautiful site that would mesmerize the beholder.
An oasis of serenity, Kapildhara is believed to be the place where the great sage Kapila had practiced severe austerities. The nearby premises house a temple in the name of this sage. The adjoining peaks are chock-full of caverns where saints might have been performed their religious rituals. Pictorial environs that surround the cataract make it an ideal place of retreat and it is one of the most sought after destinations in Amarkantak.

Mai ki Bagiya is one of the prettiest locations in Amarkantak. Literally Bagiya means orchards and Mai ki Bagiya is a lovely stretch of trees, which is believed to be the playground of River Narmada. Legend has it that mother Narmada used to pluck flowers from this garden
A natural garden with wide varieties of shaded trees, this orchard proffers a nice walking trail in absolute serenity. This garden is spotted with endless varieties of Mangos, bananas and so many other fruit bearing trees along with a long stretch of flowery plants. In fact, Amarkantak found its rendering as a marvelous mango orchard in one of the books of Kalidasa and Mai Ki Bagiya bears a strong testimony to this. Mai Ki Bagiya encompasses shrines, trees, a rain-fed kund and the banks of this holy kund is quite famous for large verities of medicinal herbs and plants.

A lovely temple at the very source of Narmada River is a delightful place to roam in. As the place holds immense religious significance, its holy premises would be thronged with huge gatherings. Mythology says that the holy river Narmada takes its origin from Lord Shiva and it descended from heaven at Narmada Udgam.
One of the ancient temples that boast of great traditional value Narmada Udgam presents a complex of small shrines in an enclosed space, in which a sacred kund is its spotlight. Devotees perform rituals and prayers here Flanked with so many shrines this kund happens to be a hub of devotees who under took the mush coveted Narmada Parikrama. Main shrines in the premises are dedicated to Narmada devi, Surya, Shiva Gorakhnath and Vishnu.
The evening aarti in Narmada Udgam temple is a refreshing affair with the chanting of vedic hymns in the midst of beating drums and bells. Incenses that are fumed during the rituals make the entire ambiance aromatic. Apart from the regular aartis and prayers the temple has special rituals on Shivaratri and Navaratri festivals. Celebrations in Navaratri is marked with continuous lit of ghee lamps for nine days and that makes the holy ambiance of the temple literally glittering.

Shakthipeeths are believed to be abode of mother Goddess who benevolently blesses the devotees with her passionate compassion. Sonakshi temple is one among such Shaktipeeths where the devotees flock together to receive the blessings of a benevolent goddess. It is the popular belief that who ever comes here to seek the blessings of the goddess on the eve of Navaratri festival would be highly rewarded.
Apart from its religious importance the temple unfurls the magical charm of the Amarkantak Plateau in its full magnificence. The temple situates in such a lovely spot that it fetches the enchanting view of the Sone river that originates from a nearby Kund. A slight ascend through the 100 odd steps will lead the visitor to the rim of a hillside. From here one would get the pictorial sceneries of the Satpura ranges and the undulating valleys. This picturesque spot is a recommended place to watch the rising sun.
