An alluring monument that radiates the charm and aura of medieval times, Bhadra fort and its surroundings are the most scenic locations in the city. Built by Sha Alam in the year 1411, this fort got its name from the Bhadrakali temple it houses. Nested in the midst of lush greenery that amounts to 44 acres, the fort depicts the history and life of Alam Sha and his family. Intricate carvings, lattice works and lovely frescos suits to the serene ambiance pretty well.
The most fabulous edifice in the fort is the lovely arches in the entry gate, which shows some inscriptions regarding the history of the fort. Today’s fort is a hub of several governmental activities where some of the important offices like ASI, post office etc are functioning. It also holds a lovely mosque in the name of Siddi Sayed.

You can see the elaborate design, delicate artwork and brilliantly hand woven stuffs from all over India in the various galleries of the Museum. Kalamkaris, pichhwais, silks, floor spreads, bandhnis, tent canopies, patolas and precious brocades adds the glamour of this dazzling institution.
Among the various galleris, the Religious Textiles gallery displays traditional religious wares of the 15th century that are commonly called as the Vallabha Sampradaya. The historical textiles gallery tries to showcase the magnificence of Mughal sumptuousness.

An ancient monument that depicts the art and craft of the bygone eras, Dada Hari Vav were built during the reign of Mehmud Begda in the year 1501. This octagonal shaped step well was constructed as a tranquil retreat for the vacationer. Right from stamped floral caucuses to the wavy sculptures, each facets of Dada Hari Vav is marvelously festooned.
It’s highly ornamented arches, columns and panes shows exquisite carvings and classy designs. Though these step wells boast of Muslim traditions, one can witness the handwork of Hindu artisans in its elaborate carving. A name synonymous with the historic freedom struggle of India, Sabarmati Ashram on the banks of Sabarmati River is a familiar term to each house hold in India. As the residence of Gandhiji, this Ashram had played a key role, as it was from here Gandhiji urged the people of India to raise their voice against the loathsome rule of the British. He had sowed the seeds of non violence from this Ashram.

Built in the year 1850 AD, the Hathee Singh Temple is dedicated to the 15th Theerthankara of Jains, Dharmnath. This temple is named after Sri Hathee Singh, a rich jain merchant of yesteryears, who had under took the great task of such an amazing construction. Famed for its brilliant structural designs, this two-storied white marble structure provides a delightful experience to the beholder. Elaborate porches on three sides are a specialty of this temple. A lovely dome on the front porch gives a peculiar appeal to this architectural splendor. Other two porches displays prolifically carved patterns.
Another unique aspect of the temple is its tiled courtyard, which is encircled by daunting row of pergolas with 52 shrines. Each shrine shows remarkable designs and fine carvings and all of them encompass an image of a Tirthankara. One of the prettiest Jain shrines in India, Hathisingh Temple follows the usual architectural pattern of the Diwara Jain Temples of Rajasthan.

This amazing specimen of craftsmanship and technical expertise is a part of the Siddir Bashir Mosque that itself is a marvel in terms off designer works. It is quite perplexing that even after a lapse of so many years, how these towers retain its grandeur and elegance with its original grace.

Prettily placed in the heart of the old city, Juma Masjid displays a perfect balancing of Hindu and Muslim style of architectural designs. This shrine is built in the year 1423, during the reign of Sultan Ahmed Shah. Built in by yellow sandstone, the masjid takes the attention of the beholder with it’s sheer beauty. Most fascinating structure inside the shrine is its western chamber, which contains 260 pillars with fine carvings. These pillars are the supporting stems of 15 domes that situates in various levels.
A rectangle shaped large courtyard with white marbles with a pool in its midst affords a perfect retreat to the grating streets outside of the mosque. It also guards the serenity and devoutness of the inner shrine. Juma Masjid also holds the Mausoleums of Ahmed Sha and two other illustrious sultans’ of the city. These tombs also express perfect carvings and flamboyant designs.

An artificial lake dates back to the time of Sultans, Kankaria in the south east region of Ahmedabad is a crowd puller in recent times. It was constructed by Sultan Qutab-ud-Din in 1451 AD. Formerly known as Hauj-e-Qutub, this lake was the bathing ghat of late Sultans and their queens. Mughal Emperor Jahangir and his empress wife Noor Jahan frequently visited the lake.
Nagina Wadi, an island garden set in the midst of the lake is just picturesque that adds the bewitching beauty of the lake. One of the banks is connected to this island by virtue of a pathway. Another interesting pass time in the lakeside is the boating facilities. Adventurous lots and fun lovers can engage themselves with this water sport. The lake witness’s large crowd in weekends, especially in the evenings of weekends. One would not get a better place to watch sunset than Kankaria Lake. Children can enjoy the facilities in the children’s park and the adjoining zoo.

The Museum covers a wide variety of topics from Buddhism, Jainism and its darshans, grammar, tantra and poetics to Vedas, agama to the different branches of Indian philosophy. It is learnt that this museum has the largest collection of Jain scripts which come around 75, 000 manuscripts with 500 illustrated versions and 45,000 printed books. The books of different languages like Sanskrit, Pali, Old Gujarati, Apabhramsa, Hindi, and Rajasthani are found in Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum.
This museum houses wide collection of ancient books that includes rare manuscripts. A flamboyant little city on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, Sarkhej Roja boasts of its Mugal era through a cluster of elegant monuments. Most striking facets of this city are the tomb of Sultan Mehmud Begada and a lovely mosque. Sharkhej Roza is a best example for calculated town planning, where the spiritual, imperial and common worlds coexist without crossing the barriers with each other. The mosque, the tombs, the palaces and the common facilities like the pavilions, tanks, platforms feature the religious, royal and social planning of the city.
A renowned place with architectural grandeurs, the Sarkhej Roza displays an elegant excellent pierced stone trellises with out the use of arches. One of the monuments holds mausoleums of Saint Ahmed Khattu Baksh, of Emperor Mehmud Shah Beguda and his queen. Elegant buildings in the city show great influence of Hinduism than that of the Sarcenic style that was prevalent in Ahmedabad in olden days.

The science city is a government venture to showcase the over all development of the state to the outsiders. Set up in the year 1960, this great concern had received laurels both from the general public and the ace educationalists. IMAX 3D Theatre in the science city is a unique experience and it is the hot favourite among children.
Musical Dancing Fountain Aquamobil, ride simulations are the other attractions in the park. One can also go to the Energy Education Park, which is spread over an expanse of 9000 square meters. Another important wing of the park is the Life Science Park where large verities of butterflies and so many rare cacti plants are preserved.
The shows at the IMAX Theatre start at 2:30 pm and the last show is at 7:30 pm. The Musical Fountain shows begin at 6:30 pm and the last show is at 8:40 pm. It is definite that each one of you would be enthralled to see the scientific extravaganza in the Science park and so do not miss this great center while at Ahmedabad.

Most predominant shrine of the Muslim community in Ahmedbad, Sidi Sayed Mosque, proffers all the glittering facets of a classy structure. It is renowned for the acclaimed fabulous Jhali screen, locates in the ten semi-circular windows. Among these windows the two that are placed on the western walls are very impressive with magnificent carvings and designs.
The mosque depicts the usual yellow colour, which is quite common about the shrine of that area, but elaborate floral and architectural works made it so different from that of the others. Situated in the city limits, Vaishno Devi temple in Ahmedabad is a popular shrine among not only the devotees but also the tourists. Encircled by all around greenery vastrapur lake is a must see spectacle in the city. Green lawns in the surrounding happen to be the most popular podium of various cultural events. Water lovers can go for boating since, and the less adventurous can embark on a nice promenade through the nice pathway that rounds the lake. The lake looks so appealing at times when it is fed with the waters from the Narmada river.
