Travel within city
Getting around Ahmedabad is quite easy, as the city is well planned out in every sense of the word. You can roam around the city of Ahmedabad through its various buses, auto rickshaws and cabs and can reach any part of the city with minimal effort.
Buses in Ahmedabad are many, and all these buses ply to specific portions of the city from the central bus stand. You will need to know which bus route to take and which stop to get down at, and this can easily be accomplished by talking to some locals and asking for their opinion. Bus fares are very cheap and this is the cheapest mode of travel. Bus fares will range from Rs 4 to 20. It is essential to get the help of locals in order to figure out bus routes and numbers as these are entirely written in Gujarati.
Auto rickshaws are also available and these are safe options for night time travel. Autos run on meter and the basic fare is Rs 8 for every kilometer. Auto rickshaws do not have separate night fares.
Cabs are costlier than auto rickshaws, though more luxurious. Charges may vary from Rs 350 to 500, depending on the distance involved. They do not run on meter. Cabs, autos and buses can be taken from major places like railways station and airport.
